Rehabilitation
The clinical benefits of laser include reduced spasms, pain relief, increased circulation, flexibility and function improvement, prompt healing, reduced symptoms associated with osteorarthritis, accelerated tissue repair and cell growth and overall increase in quality of life.
Hydrotherapy simply means ‘water therapy’. There are many benefits to be gained by exercising in water, and it forms an essential part of the rehabilitation program of many small animal patients.
Pets that receive hydrotherapy as part of their rehabilitation program will demonstrate accelerated recovery and return to function compared to those receiving a home exercise program alone. Research shows that underwater treadmill therapy can speed muscle strengthening and improve joint range of motion in dogs following surgery. Benefits can be gained in as little as 1-2 sessions per week.

EXTERNAL NUTRITION COUNSELLING
We now offer referral for nutrition counselling to Massey University. If you are an owner who would prefer to make your pets diet or are interested in the nutrition value of your pets home-made diet we can help you source the advice you need. Massey University provides home-prepared recipe formulations, client home-prepared recipe evaluations, commercial food recommendations and nutrition consultations for patients.
DENTAL CHECKS
Make an appointment with one of our qualified nurses to have your pet's dental health assessed!! During dental month, this is done for FREE! Check when Dental Month is on using our Monthly Special'
Dental health is very important for our pets. If your dog is showing any signs such as bad breath, dis-interest in chewing food or not allowing you to touch their mouth, book them in for a dental check.
FREE WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM
Our qualified nurses can design a Hills Pet Fit program to suit your pet.
This includes free online support and regular weigh-ins. Overweight pets are at increased risk for many diseases as well as influencing osteoarthritis. If you have noticed your pet has gained some extra kilograms, book them in for their first weigh-in!
PENNHIP SERVICES
The AIS PennHIP method has strong scientific foundation as the most effective hip screening tool available for dogs.
AIS PennHIP testing is accurate in puppies as young as 16 weeks of age. It gives an estimate of the risk for painful osteoarthritis of canine hip dysplasia later in life. With this information, preventive and palliative strategies can be recommended.
All dogs can benefit from PennHIP testing. For pet dogs found to be at risk, early intervention can help prevent or lessen the severity of canine hip dysplasia. For working/service dogs, identifying a dog with healthy hips can extend the working life of the dog. For breeding dogs, early detection of at-risk hips can allow the breeder to make early, informed decisions as to which dogs to keep in breeding programs.
PUPPY PRESCHOOL
Puppy preschool gives your puppy the best start to socialisation in a controlled environment where you also get to learn about your puppy's health needs as well as training tips.
The course is $175 and is open for pups 10-18 weeks of age that have started their vaccination course. Basic puppy care, obedience and behaviour are covered over the time of 5 weeks.

TITRE TESTING
Are you concerned you are over vaccinating your dog?
Then why not do a Titre test.
This test can give you the peace of mind that you're looking for. It gives you an indication of the antibodies your dog is carrying prior to its vaccination.

HOSPITALISATION FACILITIES
We have a range of suites to ensure your pet's stay is as comfortable as possible. We can cater for the tiniest Chihuahua to a Great Dane.
Your pet’s comfort is important to us.
We also have kennel cameras that allow us to remotely monitor our patients individually during their stay with us.
SEPARATE CAT WARD
We have a separate cat ward away from the noise and hustle of the kennels to ensure your cat can relax whilst in our care.
DIGITAL X-RAY FACILITIES
Having a digital X-ray ensures your pet is exposed to minimal radiation and the ability to take multiple images in a timely fashion.
We are also able to send these images directly to a specialist for review.
ULTRASOUND FACILITIES
We have our own ultrasound for diagnostic use. This is particularly useful for pregnancy diagnosis.
COMPUTERISED RECORD KEEPING
All consultations, purchases and records are kept on our database. Reminders can be generated for any item. We take particular care in ensuring every pet is up to date with their vaccinations and health care programs.
PET DENTISTRY
We have the latest technology in dental equipment and also stock a comprehensive range of after care products.
MICROCHIPPING
We recommend all pets to be microchipped and believe this is part of responsible pet ownership.
We use the nationally recognised database Australasian Animal Registry which allows owners to update their details online at no charge once registered. Your pets require you to keep them safe, they can not do it themselves. Providing them with a microchip allows them to be reunited with you if they ever become lost or stolen.
IN-HOUSE AND REFERRAL PATHOLOGY
We use Idexx Laboratories technology for all our in-house blood work. By having our in-house facilities we are able to get results for your pet almost immediately. We recommend a pre-anaesthetic blood test prior to all anaesthetics to ensure your pet's organs are functioning properly and to find hidden health conditions that could put your pet at risk.
We use Idexx Laboratories Queensland for all external pathology.

Girraween Veterinary Hospital recommends and uses Hills Vet Essentials and Hills Prescription Diets.
Alternative brands may sourced from our wholesaler upon request.
BUSY
If you are unable to get to the clinic during consultation times, you may drop off your pet on your way to work and your pet will be attended to during the day.
A vet will call you once they have assessed your pet and treatment will be commenced once discussed with you.

ON PREMISE HYDROBATH
We have a fabulous on-premise hydrobath to make washing your dog a breeze!
Located at the end of our off road car park, the hydrobath is located undercover in a secure yard.
The hydrobath has clip on chains inside the wash bay to restrain your dog while you concentrate on getting the bubbles going! It has an easy to operate dial which adds the shampoo, conditioner, flea wash and rinse all through the water as you hose your pooch. It also has a blow drier attachment. The water is warm making it a pleasant experience for you pet.
